Feburary - First Grade News

The first-grade students are beginning a science unit titled, “Pebbles, Sand, and Silt”. Rocks are one topic which seems to fascinate all children. Perhaps it’s because we all begin so close to the ground and it’s what we first notice as we learn to move about! The main objectives of this unit include observing, describing, and sorting earth materials, exploring places earth materials are found and understanding ways that earth materials are used. The students will be doing many experiments with rocks while learning new vocabulary. Also, they will compare and mix different soils. So, as you begin to think about warm weather and your garden, you might ask a first-grader to help you mix the soil!
