As millions of people around the world watch the presidential inauguration on January 20th, Zion Freeman will be there in person! Zion, who is a first-grader in Mrs. Nordmeyer’s class, will march with the Isiserettes in the Inauguration Day Parade. The Isiserettes Drum and Drill Corp have performed for twenty-nine years at sporting, music, and other events across Iowa and the nation. This is their biggest event ever! Zion is excited for the trip to Washington, D.C. where he and his parents will also attend the swearing in ceremony of our 44th United States President, Barack Obama. Zion is one of two percussionists who play the cymbals for the drum corp. He is the fourth generation from his family to perform with the group, which was founded by his great-grandmother. The Isiserettes are slated as the eleventh group in the first part of the parade. We will be watching for Zion and the Isiserettes, and we can’t wait to hear about his amazing experience!
In the meantime, we invite Hanawalt students to drop a note to Zion in Mrs. Nordmeyer’s room to congratulate and wish him good luck. If you would like to learn more about the Isiserettes’ historic journey and see the invitation they received from the Inauguration Committee, please visit: www.isiserettes.com. The group is also accepting donations to pay for their trip.
CONGRATULATIONS, ZION, FROM ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS AT HANAWALT!
