March - Third Grade News

The 3rd grade students are working on their non-fiction writing. Each student has chosen a topic, read and collected notes and are learning how to take those notes and turn them into paragraphs and sections for their non-fiction book. We are also looking at all of the text features that are included in a non-fiction book and will incorporate many of those into our own writing as well!

We have all returned from Japan. Students had the opportunity to enjoy the tastes of Japan by making rice balls. Some wrapped seaweed around theirs, some rolled the rice balls in fish flakes, while others stuffed them with meat or pickled radishes. They were yummy! Students also played a traditional Japanese game and did some writing in Japanese as well! Thank you to the Yamamoto family for your help with these activities! We will soon be off to Australia and can’t wait to learn about the communities there and what life is like!

The ITBS tests will start March 31st. We will start helping your child prepare for these tests by explaining what they are and how to take them. We emphasize to the children that it is not something to stress about. We’ll do lots of practicing so that the students feel comfortable with this style of testing. More information will be sent home closer to the testing date.
